Sequoia National Forest — Big Meadows Road

Camp Review

  • We camped in a level camping spot off of Big Meadows Road with beautiful views of the Sierras.

  • The site has a few trees nearby, which made it easy for Cassie to dig a cat hole. Also, there were slabs of rock surrounding us.

  • We saw a tent that was set up about 200 ft from our campsite and they were super quiet. Other than that, we saw no other humans or human-made artifacts. We did, though, hear dozens of distant gunshots throughout the evening.

  • We somehow had 1 bar of LTE on Verizon.

What Happened?

After driving to a couple of different camp spots along Big Meadows Road, we settled on this campsite around 7 p.m. We didn’t stay outside though, as we heard mosquitoes buzzing as soon as we got out of the car. Instead, we settled in the camper where we cooked and ate dinner.

We then settled into different activities for the night—Cassie painted, journaled, and meditated while I processed pictures, wrote a few blog articles, and read a book.

Around midnight we went to sleep and woke up early to drive down to Crystal Cave. I slept well, but Cassie did not as she was a little cold and did not want to get up to pee.

It’s hard to convey with words, but this site was one of the nicest campsites we’ve ever been to. It was quiet, beautiful, and had the perfect amount of coziness.
